Regenerative Receiver (Year 1930)

This is a receiver of amateur construction built in France in 1930. It is a two tube regenerative detector (see schematic) with the reaction feedback implemented by inductive coupling. The rightmost inductor (in the above picture) acts as the "tickler" coil for the central inductor. This coil also forms with the leftmost one the antenna radio frequency transformer. The receiver is built in the "breadboard" style (see back side picture) with a (sanded) plastic front panel. The whole is housed in a wooden box (not shown).

It is a battery powered set (4V heater tubes) to be used with a pair of headphones. The amount of reaction is controlled by changing the distance between the center and right coils. This is done by acting on the leaver mechanically attached to the right inductor. Besides the three inductors, the front panel also contains a tuning button and a potentiometer used to control the valves heater currents.
